Welcome to Cape Coral CERT!

With a population approaching 180,000 and growth in Cape Coral expected to continually increase, the Fire Department recognized the need for educating our citizens in disaster preparedness and response training through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Tornadoes, Fires and Hurricanes are just a few types of disasters the City of Cape Coral has been faced with in the past.  In the future, the City of Cape Coral may face more disasters. Does your family, spouse or loved one know how to take care of themselves? You and your family should know the simple basic principles of “Disaster Preparedness” so you won’t feel vulnerable or afraid.

The Cape Coral Fire Department offers the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, free of charge for City Employees and residents of the City. Our classes run for 9 sessions, one night a week. Participants will learn basic training in fire suppression, search and rescue, first aid, CPR/AED, Hazardous Materials, generator and electrical safety.  The classes are instructed by Firefighters and Paramedics who engage in discussions regarding real-life examples and the proper procedures carried out by a CERT member. Open discussion and questions are highly encouraged during classes.  A CERT Certificate, badge and t-shirt will be granted to each individual who completes the training.

The Cape Coral CERT has graduated over 1100 members since the program inception in May of 1997.  Today, we have 600 members with 300 of those members being actively involved as volunteers in our community!!

If you are interested in receiving this training, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at the Cape Coral Emergency Operations Center at 239-242-3608.  You can always use the contact form to email CapeCERT@capecoral.net.
